As the society accepts inequality as normal or remain incognizant of its origin and practices, the room for human agency and change is resteicted. Dr Siddiqui's contribution in critical studies in education and language offer a rare but much needed perspective in Pakistan which touches upon the significant and often unrealised fundamental connections between education, social stratification, and hegemonic practices which perpetuate status quo. He is one of a rare breed of social thinkers who also have an overt social agenda. On the other hand there is direct link with socio-economic development and education of a country. Education not only liberates human mind from stereotype myths and superstitions but it also equips individuals with necessary and relevant skills to live prosperous and healthy life. Thus education brings social justice and equality through economic stability and vice versa. But in our country the situation is reciprocal. Instead of bridging the gap in society, our education system has been and is being manipulated as a tool for widening social, economic, and mental gapes. The book written by Dr Shahid Siddique is going to be a masterpiece in igniting critical discourse on this critical aspect of education.
